Dear Thea,
Just a short note to thank you so much for the 'Basics' class on Sunday. I thoroughly enjoyed your class and meeting some new Naramatians.  I only wish the class was longer! I didn't want to leave!  I hope to attend either a circle class or another class at Leir
House in the future. I have mentioned your class to my friends and they are very intrigued. I went to your website and looked at every picture in your Gallery. I am fascinated how you create your pictures, especially the Asian, water, flowers and landscapes.  Thank you so much for such a fun day and taking the time to share your knowledge with us. I hope to see you again soon.  It was a pleasure meeting you!! Warmest
regards, Barb S.

Thea:
I want to thank you SO MUCH! for exposing me to encaustic art. I have definitely found a new creative process that will enhance my cards or just express myself and the inner creative me.   The journey has now just begun and practice, practice, practice will take place.
Thank you once again for the inspiration.
Stuart A., Coquitlam, BC

To Anna-Maria Aigner’s workshop “New Ways in Encaustic”, Aug. 2009
This workshop has connected us directly to the European encaustic community. Anna Maria’s instructions, combined with Thea’s prior grounding us in encaustic has done 2 things: consolidated our skills and expanded our world as painters.
Okanagan Falls, August 2009

So much to learn, so little time! this was an incredible 3 days, wish it could be longer. Thank you!

We all had such a good time. Everyone has been contacting me to say how much they enjoyed your enthusiasm and great teaching style.  We will let you know how we progress.
Williams Lake, June 2009

Thank you for a wonderful weekend.
I don't remember the last time I had such a good time.
Cheers
Jo-Anne, June 2009

I so enjoy our workshops and circles.  It is my little escape from the everyday. What a bonus when I take home something that I like. I think I would just keep coming to classes no matter how much I already know. They are such a joy to participate in.  Everyone is always so nice and helpful. It is a great mix of people. I think you bring out the best in us.

Comments from Naramata Centre workshop participants, July 2008

Fabulous! Thank you, Thea, for being so genrous with your time, knowledge and beautiful supplies!

Great course. Thea is a very good teacher. Variety of techniques, time to practice.

I was in the painting with wax program which was wonderful. Thea was very knowledgeable and we had many opportunities to create beautiful pictures.

All good! My daughter and I were excited every morning to go and paint with wax.

Extremely well-organized and structured. Very good instruction - lots of excellent demos to illustrate each technique. Very pleasant, helpful attitude. Course was jam packed with many different types of techniques. All in all - A OK

Thea has an abundance of things to share with us!

Comments from 2005 OSA students:

The class was so much fun and we all produced some beautiful pieces of art.  Thea is so enthusiastic and encouraging that it is hard not to enjoy this art medium and the colours of the wax are just stunning. J. K.

There was something for everyone in your course and I really believe we all loved our work because encaustic art seems to be so fluid and non-restricting - it was wonderful to see "how things evolved" as the wax moved around creating unplanned little bits of "WOW". C.M.

Thea is a very gifted teacher who can lead and direct but was also able to step back and let me find out things for myself.  I haven't met anyone who hasn't been fascinated by the technique and the results. N.H.

A Testimonial to the Teaching of Encaustician Thea Haubrich

Margaret Phillips works part time in the Mustard Seed bookstore at Naramata Centre. Margaret was among the first students of Thea Haubrich when she began giving encaustics classes in the South Okanagan. She has found Thea to be a wonderful teacher who is able to impart the special techniques of encaustic art through personal step-by-step demonstration.

As a result Margaret has acquired a level of proficiency that has enabled her to exhibit her own vibrant encaustic images in two public exhibitions; eloquent proof both of the accessibility of the encaustic medium and the skillful teaching of Thea Haubrich.

”Workshops run by Thea will be an exciting adventure into the world of Encaustics.
Thea is a very skilled demonstrator of techniques, her rich imagination and technical skills combined with her excellent teaching methods produce a very valuable experience to those who wish to take the step forward to this fun and rewarding medium.
Her workshops come highly recommended.”
Brian Wilson, Chairman
Penticton & District Community Arts Council

This is a letter of introduction and support for one of the Okanagan’s valued art instructors and artists, Thea Haubrich.
The Penticton & District Community Arts Council has been honoured and delighted to have Thea as an integral part of the Arts Community in Penticton, Oliver, Osoyoos and beyond. Her love of the Encaustic meduim has sparked a huge following within this realm.

Thea has sat on the Board of Directors of PDCAC for the last few years and has chaired the Special Events Committee during her tenure with us.

Mrs. Haubrich launched a successful exhibit this past year, at the Leir House Cultural Centre using the work of her many students. Attendance at this event was one of the highest of any exhibit for many years.

The popularity of the encaustic medium has caused the membership of the PDCAC to look closer at making Mrs. Haubrich’s classes a feature of the ongoing art events at Leir House Cultural Centre. We all hope she will consider remaining as one of the focus points of art education in Penticton.

Jane Curtin, Workshop Coordinator
Summerland Community Arts Council

It gives me great pleasure to offer this letter of introduction for Thea Haubrich. Thea has been affiliated with the Summerland Community Arts Council as an instructor for two years. She has given 3 workshops during that time and all were well attended. As a matter of fact, her first class enjoyed themselves so much they booked her right away for another class.

Most people had not heard of the technique of painting with wax but the participants found Thea's methods and personality very easy to follow. She was well prepared and very encouraging.

Thea has always been wonderful to work with as an instructor. She comes prepared to give everyone a good experience and is gaining a reputation locally as a much sought after teacher.

Should you have any questions please feel free to call the office at 494-4494.

Samarpan Faasse
Executive Director
Okanagan School of the Arts

Thea Haubrich approached the Okanagan School of the Arts in 2005 with a proposal to teach Encaustic Painting in our Summer Session. She was encouraged to do so by Nel Witteman, one of our directors.

The weeklong workshop was a great success. According to student testimonials Thea is an excellent teacher with a sincere passion for her art form. Many students found their expectations more than exceeded.

Her courses are well prepared, she is flexible when circumstances require and she supplies all the materials, so students do not have to buy expensive equipment beforehand. She approaches every student in an individual manner, either professional artists or people who just seek a fun way to be creative. Thea returned in 2006 and 2007 to offer her workshop again. Enrollment has increased over the years, by word of mouth and through our regular marketing program.

Prior to Thea’s arrival in 2004 Encaustic Painting was practically unknown in the Okanagan. Over the past three years, she has built up an excellent reputation with her courses, exhibitions, demonstrations and informal painting sessions. Attendees come from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, the USA, as well as BC. She is a well-respected member of the art community in the Okanagan.

Thea maintains her own website with a wealth of information about Encaustic and her current workshops. www.encaustic.ca

We highly recommend Thea Haubrich as an instructor of Encaustic Painting.

Sarah Gattinger
Recreation programmer,
Sonora Community Centre, town of Osoyoos

Thea Haubrich has been teaching Encaustic Art classes at the Sonora Community Centre for the past two years. Her classes have been well received in the community with many registrants participating in both the basic and advanced classes. Students have been curious about the class and enjoy being able to create wonderful pieces of art in one afternoon.

Thea has been very professional and a pleasure to work with when setting up courses. She has been accommodating in the times that she is available to teach classes and has always helped promote the classes being held here at the Sonora Community Centre. I would highly recommend her and the courses that she teaches.
